Control laboratory & product testing
In addition to a tight control of process parameters and incoming raw materials, Epsilon has more than 30 years of experience of physico-chemical testing (Tg / DMA, DSC, microscopic observations, etc.) and mechanical testing (tensile/compression tests, bending, fatigue, ILSS, etc.) on composite materials and metals.
Our laboratory is also an essential component of our R&D effort, since it allows us to test the performance of the materials we develop, as well as to verify the consistency of our predictive simulations through real tests.
These tests can simulate ageing or environmental aggressions (UV, high temperature, humidity, contaminating fluids, etc.)
Non Destructive Testing
Epsilon has developed a proven expertise in non-destructive testing, based on a complete panel of technologies that make it possible to detect any defects in the composite parts we produce (delamination, porosity, foreign body…).
Our expertise initially derives from our rich background in Oil & Gas and Aerospace applications, where the conformity of parts is crucial for safety, while in the past decade, we have developed specific technologies for conductor cores.
In addition to the standard methods used to inspect composite materials, such as ultrasonic inspection, micro-tomography (X-rays) or infrared, Epsilon has developed several patented monitoring technologies specifically for High Voltage conductor cores, such as:
- CoreCheck® : this efficient technology based on breakdown voltage can confirm the integrity of our composite cores at every stage of a project (core manufacturing in pultrusion, stranding, installation…), without delaying the installation with complex operations.
- Optical fiber monitoring, derived from our experience in Oil & Gas applications, where they are often used for downhole operations.
Please note that due to the sensitive nature of optical signals, experience shows that any solution relying on optical fibers is quite complex to deploy on the field, and has other inherent limitations. We therefore consider that breakdown voltage is a much more suitable option for transmission and distribution lines.
