We create & implement durable innovative solutions to modernize overhead electric lines worldwide #HTLS #composites
About us
Since 1987, Epsilon is a pioneer and world leader in high performance composite materials thanks to the pultrusion process. This highly efficient technology, combined with the extraordinary properties of carbon fibers is the ideal solution to manufacture the cores of High Capacity / High Temperature Low Sag (“HTLS”) conductors. Thanks to its strong lightweight composite core, this new generation of smart conductors is successfully being implemented worldwide to increase line ampacity, reduce line sag or electrical losses. Epsilon Composite Cable is at the forefront of this grid modernization, with a proven track record of several thousands of kilometers of power lines installed worldwide in the past 20 years. With its R&D center and pultrusion facilities in France, Epsilon is certified according to ISO9001, and supplies the most demanding cable manufacturers to help them achieve their ambitious performance & cost targets on innovative conductor projects. Along with its partners for stranding and accessories, Epsilon also developed and manufactures HVCRC® conductors for utilities who need to improve their transmission or distribution lines. HVCRC® are qualified according to ASTM B987.

Did you know that "ACCC" is not a type of #HTLS conductor but just a trade mark, like "HVCRC" or "Aero-Z" ? We often notice this confusion regarding composite core advanced conductors… There are in fact many types of composite HTLS conductors, such as HVCRC®, ACPS and ACPR Lo-Sag, C7®, ACCC® and a few other technologies from various manufacturers. According to CIGRE, they are all classified as “Type-4 HTLS conductors” and described as “conductors consisting of a polymer-matrix (PMC) strength member and an envelope for which the high temperature effects are mitigated by means of annealed aluminium or thermal-resistant aluminium alloy for HTLS applications”. Most line engineers are very well aware of this, but many power line professionals worldwide have actually been led to the confusion between “#ACCC” and “Type-4 HTLS conductors”. Therefore, when they include the brand name “ACCC” in their technical specifications, they are unknowingly limiting their choice to only 1 technology and composite core supplier and as such, defeating the purpose of the bid itself, which is to have fair competition... #HVCRC #transmission #powerlines #sustainability #energytransition

⚡ Did you know that composite core conductors were invented by W. Brandt Goldsworthy in the 90’s ? M. Goldsworthy passed away on April 3, 2003, and today we wish to pay our tribute to this visionary engineer who paved the way for a new generation of sustainable and efficient conductors. Nicknamed “the father of composites” and one of the inventors of the pultrusion process, M. Goldsworthy could see as early as the 90’s the potential of improving overhead lines thanks to the pultrusion process. He was the first to come up with the idea to replace the traditional steel core in High Voltage cables with a composite core, and in 1998, his team laid out the foundation for the first generation of composite cables. Based on his work, Epsilon Composite developed carbon fiber pultrusion and Epsilon Cable developed composite core conductors such as the HVCRC®. The HVCRC® technology is now widely used by transmission and distributions operators looking for a reliable and durable solution to upgrade overhead lines over the world. ➡ Learn more: www.epsilon-cable.com #highvoltage #composites #pultrusion #hvcrc #epsiloncable #cfrp

🎥 Beautiful aerial images from our latest HVCRC® reconductoring project in Montenegro, and interesting feedback from Elnos Group site manager Luka Šaranović on this HVCRC® installation in a very difficult rocky landscape. This 110kV line connects the Perućica hydro power plant to the capital city of #Montenegro, Podgorica. The #HVCRC reconductoring will not only extend the life of this solviet-era power line but also double its capacity, while reducing electrical losses and solving sag issues. Congratulations to the team involved, from design to installation 👍 More information: www.epsilon-cable.com CGES - Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem AD , Nexans, Sicame Group, Tesmec - Stringing Equipment #HTLS #energytransition #powerlines

In its latest report, Grid Strategies LLC highlights how "coordination, collaboration, and open information sharing leads to real and concrete benefits for electric customers". With more than 300 transmission assets owners in the USA alone, this is especially critical to face the current challenge of #electrification and #energytransition. The report reviews 29 successful examples of transmission development in the past decades and all across the US, where such collaboration was a critical factor. Great job to the authors Rob Gramlich, Richard Doying, Zachary Zimmerman and to the WIRES team ➡ Download the full report: https://lnkd.in/dEvDcrQD #powerlines #transmission #HTLS

Another great example of #reconductoring where #HVCRC was the most economical and practical solution to increase the line ampacity. This 110kV line just outside the capital city of Podgorica crosses a very difficult rocky landscape and proved to be quite a challenging installation! Great job by Elnos Group who just completed the first part of the project with the support of HVCRC® installation experts. #Energizing Montenegro: Revolutionizing Power Transmission with HVCRC® Conductors 🔌 Advancing the #modernization project, our teams in #Montenegro are currently installing the cutting-edge HVCRC® conductor as a central component of the 110 kV TL Podgorica 1-Danilovgrad-Perućica. 🇲🇪 They are installing 105 km of these high-performance conductors along a 35 km transmission line route. The conductor's characteristics will provide much higher power #transmission, resulting in up to 30 percent more energy transferred from the Perućica hydropower plant to the Montenegro power system. ⚡️ 👉Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting endeavor! #nexans #epsilon #elnosgroup #EnergyTransformation
